This asymetry produces a series of other problems throughout the construction process which will be discussed in a future technical paper on this site.
The final selection of the vibrating string lengths was dependent on the maximum angle to which the bridge could be inclined and still allow the soundboard to vibrate freely, as well as the maximum amount of fret splay that could be managed by the player. These considerations would also influence the final area of the soundboard and hence the final shape of the new guitar.
A string length variation from 66cms for the eighth string to 63cms for the high a string seemed to be a good starting point.
